Shop Home Depot
Home Depot is the largest brick-and-mortar grill retailer in America, and for good reason — you can see, touch, and compare grills in person before buying. They carry Weber, Traeger, Char-Griller, Nexgrill, and their own exclusive brands. I've tested the best grills available at Home Depot and ranked them by what actually matters: cooking performance, build quality, and value for money.
#1 PickBest Entry-LevelThe undisputed king of entry-level, full-size gas grills. Heats fast, cleans easy, and handles a Minnesota winter like a champ.
#2 PickThe StandardFifty-plus years of proven design. Dead simple, wildly versatile, and the benchmark every charcoal grill is measured against.
#3 PickFlagshipTraeger's flagship — WiFIRE connectivity, induction cooktop, and double-walled insulation for Minnesota-proof smoking.
#4 PickBest Budget PelletBudget-friendly pellet option with enormous cooking area, solid temp control, and accessible pricing.
#5 PickCategory KingFlat-top grilling is exploding and Blackstone owns the category. Smash burgers, breakfast, stir fry — once you go griddle, you'll wonder why you waited.
#6 PickAussie LegendThe Aussie icon. Every park, beach, and campsite in Australia has one. Compact, seriously capable.
#7 PickBudget KamadoA steel kamado at a fraction of the ceramic price. Test-drive kamado cooking without the big commitment.
#8 PickBudget OffsetThe affordable entry into vertical offset smoking — big capacity, budget price, and room to learn the art of stick burning.
#9 PickBest Budget GasThe best gas grill under $400. Two burners, compact footprint, and Weber's legendary build quality — perfect for small patios and couples.
#10 PickBest Mid-Range PelletTraeger's best-selling pellet grill for good reason — WiFIRE connectivity, 575 sq in of space, and dead-simple operation. The gateway drug to pellet grilling.
#11 PickUltra-Budget PickThe $70 Walmart kettle that gets the job done. Not a Weber, but surprisingly capable for backyard basics.
#12 PickEnthusiast's ChoiceThe grill enthusiast's gas grill. Infrared side burner, stainless construction, and heat distribution that embarrasses most competitors.
Buy in-store when possible. Home Depot lets you inspect grills, check for dents, and compare sizes side-by-side. Online photos don't convey how big (or small) a grill really is. Drive to the store, stand next to it, open the lid.
Home Depot assembly service is worth it for large grills. For $99-149, they'll assemble your grill and deliver it ready to cook. Gas grills with 200+ parts take 2-4 hours to assemble yourself. Your time is worth more than $99.
Watch for spring sales. Home Depot's biggest grill sales happen Memorial Day weekend (May), Fourth of July (June-July), and Labor Day (September). Discounts of 15-30% are common. Sign up for their email list for early access.
Home Depot exclusive brands (Nexgrill, Expert Grill) offer solid value but limited warranty support. Weber, Traeger, and Napoleon have standalone customer service. With HD exclusives, warranty claims go through Home Depot's return desk.
Check the clearance endcap in the outdoor section. Home Depot marks down floor models, discontinued colors, and last-season grills by 30-50%. I've found Weber Spirits at $280 and Traeger Pro 575s at $550 on clearance.
Home Depot's return policy is generous — 90 days for most grills. If you buy a grill and it doesn't perform, return it. But keep the box if possible — returning an assembled grill without packaging is a hassle.
