The Full Review
The Recteq RT-700 arrived in a massive box and took about 2.5 hours to assemble. Once built, the quality is immediately obvious — this is 304 stainless steel everywhere, not just on the lid.
The PID controller holds temperature within ±5°F in calm conditions. WiFi connectivity lets me monitor and adjust from inside the house. Through a Minnesota winter, I saw ±10°F swings, which is better than any pellet grill I've tested except the Traeger Timberline.
The ceramic igniter is a standout feature. Traditional hot rod igniters burn out every 1-2 years. Recteq's ceramic version is rated for 100,000+ ignitions. That's a $50-100 repair you'll never need.
Smoke production is good at lower temps (225-275°F) and fades at higher temps — typical for pellet grills. The RT-700 doesn't pretend to be a stick burner, but it produces excellent results on brisket, ribs, and pork shoulder.
The 6-year warranty is the best in the pellet category. Customer service is also exceptional — I tested it with a minor part question and got a human within 5 minutes.
How Does It Compare?
At a glance against its closest pellet grill rivals.
| Grill | Rating | Price | Best For |
|---|---|---|---|
| Recteq RT-700 (this) | 4.7 | $899 | The direct-to-consumer pellet grill with a cult following. |
| Green Mountain Grills Daniel Boone Prime Plus | 4.6 | $899 | GMG's mid-range pellet flagship — true PID controller, Wi-Fi, and a peaked lid that fits a turkey. |
| Pit Boss Pro Series 1150 | 4.5 | $899 | Pit Boss's flagship pellet smoker — 1,150 sq in, PID control, and direct-flame searing at a price that still undercuts Traeger's mid-tier. |
Who Is It For?
Pellet grill shoppers who want premium quality without Traeger Timberline pricing. Set-it-and-forget-it smokers who value WiFi control. Anyone comfortable buying online without seeing the grill in person first.
Final Verdict
The Recteq RT-700 offers $1,500+ pellet grill quality for $899. The direct-to-consumer model cuts out the middleman, and you get that savings in materials and warranty. If you can buy sight-unseen, this is the best value in premium pellet grills.
