Nexgrill Evolution 5-Burner

The Nexgrill Evolution is the grill you've seen hundreds of times at Home Depot without realizing it. It's their best-selling 5-burner, and after a full season of testing, I understand why — it punches well above its $549 price tag with features you'd expect on a $900 grill.

The Full Review
I'll be honest — I went into this review expecting to dismiss the Nexgrill as a Weber knock-off. After two months of use, I have to give credit where it's due. This is a legitimately capable grill at a price that's hard to argue with.
Five burners across 650 sq in gives you serious zone control. I can run two burners on high for searing, two on medium for indirect cooking, and the fifth burner off entirely as a rest zone. Few grills under $700 give you that kind of flexibility.
The infrared ceramic sear burner is the real surprise. At this price point, you almost never see a dedicated IR sear zone — Weber doesn't include one until you hit the Genesis line at $899. The Nexgrill sear burner hits 850°F+ at the grate and produces steakhouse-quality crusts.
The built-in side burner is genuinely useful. I use it constantly for warming BBQ sauce, simmering beans, and frying onions for burgers. Most grills at this price omit it entirely.
Where the Nexgrill shows its budget roots is in build quality. The steel is thinner than Weber's, the side tables feel plasticky, and the assembly hardware is less precise. Will it last 15 years like a Weber? Probably not. Will it deliver excellent cooking for 5-7 years of regular use? Absolutely. The math on a $549 grill that lasts 7 years vs. a $899 grill that lasts 15 years is roughly a wash.
How Does It Compare?
At a glance against its closest gas grill rivals.
| Grill | Rating | Price | Best For |
|---|---|---|---|
| Nexgrill Evolution 5-Burner (this) | 4.3 | $549 | The Home Depot best-seller for a reason. |
| Weber Spirit E-310 | 4.5 | $449 | The undisputed king of entry-level, full-size gas grills. |
| Char-Broil Performance TRU-Infrared 3-Burner | 4.3 | $369 | Infrared technology at a budget price — no flare-ups, even heat, and juicier results than conventional burners. |
Who Is It For?
Big families and entertainers who need 5+ burners without spending $1,000+. First-time buyers who want premium features (IR sear, side burner) at a budget price. Anyone who values immediate value over long-term durability.
Final Verdict
The Nexgrill Evolution 5-Burner is the best gas grill under $600 if you need serious cooking capacity and an infrared sear burner. Build quality compromises mean it won't last as long as a Weber, but it delivers genuine premium features at a price the major brands can't touch.
