The Full Review
The Louisiana Grills Black Label 1000 is the pellet grill Costco members whisper about in the checkout line. At $799 with 1,000 sq in of cooking space, it's the biggest pellet grill you can buy at this price.
The PID controller is solid — holds ±10°F in moderate weather and manages well in cold conditions. WiFi connectivity works but the app is basic compared to Traeger's or Weber's offerings. It gets the job done for remote monitoring.
Smoke production is excellent at 225-275°F. I produced competition-quality ribs, pork butts, and chicken on this grill. The large cooking area let me run 4 racks of ribs simultaneously — try that on a Traeger Ironwood.
The sear capability is genuine — the grill reaches 600°F, which is high for a pellet grill. Not as refined as the Weber SmokeFire's sear, but functional.
The Costco factor is huge. Their return policy means you can try it risk-free. If it disappoints you months later, Costco still takes it back. No questions asked. That's worth more than any warranty.
How Does It Compare?
At a glance against its closest pellet grill rivals.
| Grill | Rating | Price | Best For |
|---|---|---|---|
| Louisiana Grills Black Label 1000 (this) | 4.5 | $799 | Costco's house pellet grill brand delivers serious competition to Traeger — with a massive 1,000 sq in cooking area. |
| Grilla Grills Silverbac Alpha | 4.7 | $799 | The under-the-radar Silverbac wood pellet grill cult forums love. |
| Traeger Pro 575 | 4.5 | $799 | Traeger's best-selling pellet grill for good reason — WiFIRE connectivity, 575 sq in of space, and dead-simple operation. |
Who Is It For?
Costco members who want premium pellet performance at a Costco price. Cooks who regularly smoke for large groups. Value-conscious shoppers who want the most cooking area per dollar. Anyone who appreciates Costco's legendary return policy.
Final Verdict
The Louisiana Grills Black Label 1000 is the best pellet grill value at Costco. If you have a membership and want a large-capacity smoker, this should be your first stop. The cooking space alone justifies the $799 price.
