The Full Review
The Lumin Compact is the electric grill I recommend to apartment-dwellers who've given up on outdoor cooking. Most building rules ban gas and charcoal on balconies. Electric is the only legal option, and most electric grills are mediocre at best.
The Lumin actually grills. 600°F at the grates is genuinely high enough to sear a steak — most electric grills max out at 450°F, which is hot enough to char but not hot enough to develop a proper crust. I tested a 1" ribeye on the Lumin and got a credible crust in 3 minutes per side.
The two-zone design (sear zone + grill zone) is actually useful. Sear directly over the heating element, then move to the grill zone for finishing. It's the same two-zone cooking principle as charcoal, executed in electric form.
Steam mode is the surprise feature. Add water to the integrated reservoir and the grill cooks with moisture-rich heat — perfect for chicken thighs or pork loin that you don't want to dry out. It's not smoke flavor, but it's a genuine technique that improves results.
The constraints are real. 1800W requires a dedicated 15A circuit, which most older balconies don't have. The 189 sq in cooking area cooks for 2-3 comfortably but is tight for a family. The optional stand costs another $99-149.
How Does It Compare?
At a glance against its closest electric grill rivals.
| Grill | Rating | Price | Best For |
|---|---|---|---|
| Weber Lumin Compact Electric (this) | 4.5 | $429 | Weber's modern answer to balcony electrics. |
| Ninja Woodfire Outdoor Grill | 4.4 | $370 | Electric grill that actually produces real smoke flavor using wood pellets. |
| Weber Q 2400 Electric | 4.5 | $369 | The best outdoor electric grill. |
Who Is It For?
Apartment and condo dwellers whose buildings ban gas and charcoal. Snowbirds with smaller secondary-home patios. Anyone who needs a properly-functioning electric grill that actually sears.
Final Verdict
The Weber Lumin Compact is the best electric grill on the market for apartment use. At $429 it's expensive vs. cheap electric grills, but you're paying for actual searing capability and Weber build quality. If you're stuck with electric, this is the right choice.
